Most writers still rely on index cards tacked to the
wall in order to develop their stories. Why? Because the
ability to visualize and organize the timelines and dramatic elements
of a story vastly increases efficiency and creativity.
The problems with index cards are that they are
time-consuming to rearrange and organize and get easily cluttered when
changes are made to their text content.
In recent years, software products have been marketed
that are supposed to take index cards to the "next
level." But these are complicated to use and expensive as
well, often costing in the range of $150 to $200.
Now there is THROUGHLINE, a powerful yet easy
to use interactive index card software program at a price any writer
can afford.

FEATURES
With
THROUGHLINE you can create, delete, edit, and arrange index
cards. You can also print
out the contents of the index cards and export the contents to an RTF
file you can open in your word processor.

ADD
CARDS
Select "Add
Card" from the "Cards" menu.
DELETE
CARDS
Select the "Delete Card"
option from the "Cards" menu.

VIEW
CONTENTS & EDIT CARDS
You
can view the contents and edit the name and contents of
cards either by double-clicking on the card itself..

ARRANGE
CARDS
The
order of cards can be arranged simply by clicking and
dragging any card to the new position you would like it to
have

CHANGE
COLOR OF CARDS
To
change the color of cards to indicate different kinds of
content, simply select a card and then choose the color
you want from the "Format" menu.

CHANGE
SIZE OF CARDS
You
can adjust the default size and color of your index cards
through the "Preferences" option in the
"Throughline" menu.

ADJUST
CARD LAYOUT
You
can click and drag the lower right corner of the
Throughline window to change the way the index cards are
displayed.
If
you set the window to be one card wide, the card list will
arrange vertically from top to bottom.
You can move through the cards by scrolling up and
down the list.

PRINTING
You
can print the names and content of your index cards.
EXPORT
TO WORD PROCESSOR
You
can export the names and content of your index cards by
clicking on the "Export" icon in the tool bar.

ADDITIONAL
FEATURES
CHANGE
FONT AND JUSTIFICATION
You
can change font type, size, color, formatting, and justification
through the options in the "Format" menu.
CHANGE
DEFAULT FONT
You
can adjust the default font type and size of the text in your index
cards through the "Preferences" option in the
"Throughline" menu.
SPELL
CHECK
Spell
Checking is available through the "Edit" menu.
TEXT
TO SPEECH
Hear
the text in your cards spoken using the "Speech" option
under "Services" in the "Throughline"
menu.
EDIT
TEXT
Standard
commands for Cutting, Copying, Pasting, Deleting, and Selecting text
are available through the "Edit" menu.
SAVING
AND OPENING FILES
You
can save or open files through the commands in the "File"
menu. Files can be also
opened by double-clicking when the Throughline program is already
running.
Throughline
will automatically prompt you to save when you exit the program
